Starter Series

 


Rails – The Rails class is for the “nervous Nellie”. Learn how to sew with an accurate ¼” seam allowance, use a rotary cutter with ruler, border and binding application.

Nines – The second project in our Starter Series is a cute little nine-patch quilt. We review rotary cutting skills and try to perfect that scant ¼” seam allowance. We also present an optional hand appliquéd center and review border and binding applications. Rails or equivalent skill level is required.

Flower Basket – In the third project of our beginner’s series, you will discover half-square triangles, yo-yos and double mitered borders. Nines or equivalent skill level is required.

House - Flying Geese, a pieced center block and border are the techniques used to create this little wall hanging. Flower Basket or equivalent skill level is required. Fabric kit must be purchased for this class. This class is free if you have taken Rails, Nines and the Flower Basket.

Introduction to Hand Appliqué – You will be gently guided into the beautiful art of hand appliqué with Betty’s tried and proven methods. You will receive lots of hands-on attention, while creating a breathtaking wall-hanging or pillow cover. Pattern is included.

Please make certain your sewing machine is in excellent working condition. If new, please familiarize yourself with all of its functions. Instructors cannot use valuable class time to help a student with their sewing machine.

 

The Rails, Nines and Flower Basket classes or equivalent are the prerequisite for all of Addie’s classes, Block of the Months & Saturday Sampler.

Tifaifai Appliqué (Tee-Fay-Fay Appliqué) – A jewel among flowers is the lovely hibiscus! Capture the warmth of the tropics with this original fold and cut appliqué offered here at Addie’s for the very first time. Confident beginner to advanced appliqué artist. Pattern required.

Teddy, the needle felted bear – A delightful spring project for teddy bear lovers and sewers alike. A hand stitched pincushion and a hand painted box will provide the base for your needle felted teddy. Kit fee, which includes all materials necessary to complete the project, are included in class fee.

Baltimore Elegance – Calling all aspiring ladies of Baltimore! This is the class to “quick start” your Baltimore appliqué. Make these four beautiful blocks into a wall hanging or let them “lead on” to greater things! Book purchase required. For the confident beginner to advanced appliqué artist.

Twofer Topper – Using a gradation of colour will create either a table topper or a table runner. You can use this technique to create many wonderful quilts. Pattern is included in the class fee.

An Expanded House – Take the little house to a bigger size. This class is all about sewing, you will arrive for class with all your strips cut and ready to sew. This quilt uses the center block from the House class and stretches it into a queen sized quilt. Other size options are available.

Whizzy Whack Your Stash – Getting control of that stash has been on everyone’s mind. Come to class with your pre-cut strips, we will test your scant 1/4” seam and sew like banshees.

The Wild Rose Stitchers

The Appliqué Society (TAS) is a North American organization whose mission is To Promote, To Teach, To Encourage the Love of All Types of Appliqué in Quilting. Canada’s newest chapter of TAS, The Wild Rose Stitchers, is now meeting on the third Wednesday of each month in Addie’s class room for a day of appliquéing and sharing tips and techniques. Classroom Etiquette

Please refrain from using perfume and turn your cell phone off.

Please leave your children at home while attending a class.

Please ensure your sewing machine is in good working condition.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to set up.

All classes will start promptly at the designated time.

 

Cancellation Policies

Addie’s reserves the right to cancel a class if we haven’t met our minimum enrollment seven days prior to class.

If we cancel a class, we will gladly refund your class fee.

If you cancel up to seven days prior to the start of the first class, a class credit will be issued.

We will not issue a refund or credit if you cancel less than seven days before the start of the class.

 

Registration Policies

Pre-registration is required for all classes.

Classes are reserved on a first-come basis.

Payment is due in full at the time of registration.

We give a 15% discount on all class supplies.

Please mark your calendars with your class times.

Please wait to buy supplies until the class is full.

GST is added to the cost of all classes.
